Dr. Franklin Erepamo Osaisai


Dr. Franklin Erepamo Osaisai, a Nuclear Engineering Scientist by professional training was until recently the Chairman/CEO of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC). Dr. Osaisai is a professional career academic and had taught and researched at both the University of California at Berkeley, California and the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. His teaching interests include courses in Numerical Methods & Programming, Nuclear Instrumentation, Computational Transport Phenomena, Reactor Engineering and Energy Systems. Until his appointment in May 2006 as the pioneer Director-General of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission by Mr. President, Dr. Osaisai was the Director of the Nuclear Technology Centre at the Sheda Science and Technology Complex, Abuja. He had also previously served as a Commissioner of Works and Transport in Bayelsa State of Nigeria. He has acquired over the years, significant public service experience in policy formulation, project planning and management.

Dr. Osaisai served from 2006 to 2008 as Nigeria’s representative on the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna. His scholarly publications and research interests are in the fields of Nuclear Science & Engineering, Numerical Modeling and Energy Systems Integration. He is the author of two books and a co-author of another in specialized areas of Science and Engineering. He had his undergraduate training in the Physical Sciences at the University of Port Harcourt and graduated at the top of his class and the best graduating student in the faculty with an Honours degree in Chemistry in 1981. He received his engineering education at the University of California, Berkeley, California, where he took his Masters and Doctoral degrees in Nuclear Engineering in 1984 and 1987, respectively. Dr. Osaisai is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, and also holds membership of the American Nuclear Society and the Nigerian Institute of Physics, amongst others.
